Ok, so I figured out it was the configure_event functions that were screwing up the pixmap redraws. They were redrawing the pixmap from scratch, instead of redrawing them just to the screen like i had intended (doh). Also, the keys were being drawn wrong to begin with, so i fixed both of these problems and now everything is working 100%. Drawing should even be a bit faster now since the code path has been slimmed down.
